The making of : love,

This all started late last year in 2021 when my friend Julian popped his head into my studio an saw a splash piece I was working on at the time, he commented on how it “looks like a heart”.
Those four words lead me on an almost 5 month long cathartic experience of re-processing buried thoughts, forcing the machine, learning to disregard intuitive colour combinations and ultimately
harnessing the confidence of my own experience, in an attempt to illustrate the beautiful faultlessness and unpredictability of emotions felt when falling in and out of love.

There are two ideas at play here :
The liquid represents fluidity, a confidence in chaos, a free flowing euphoric state.
The shards have been recreated from the original splash image but have been dismantled and destroyed, they’re fractured, sharp, fragile, unrecognizable and barely held together.

both beautiful in their own right.

Created in bursts between December 2021 - April 2022, this is a look behind the process.

Love, was displayed at maggies cafe, Dunedin - between September and October 2022.
